Description: Melnitz Movies and the CSRS are screening the film, Please, Don’t Bury Me Alive!, which is an independent Chicano film produced and directed by Efraín Gutiérrez and written by Sabino Garza. It is considered the first Chicano feature film ever made and it inspired an independent film movement in Mexico. The film is important as an instance of regional filmmaking, as a bicultural and bilingual narrative, and as a precedent that expanded the way that films got made in two nations. http://www.chicano.ucla.edu/press/media/dontbury.asp
